Undergraduates in the course should begin reading Ruha Benjamin’s Race After Technology. You will eventually be asked to read all but Chapters 4-5 (though I highly recommend 5 to you since it offers strategies for resisting and countering the trends described in rest of the book)
Graduate students, we will address Franco Moretti’s theory of “Distant Reading” (assigned 2/25) and the following:
- Nan Da, “The Digital Humanities Debacle” The Chronicle of Higher Ed, April 5, 2019.
- Ted Underwood, “Do We Understand the Contours of Literary History?” In Distant Horizons
- Computational Literary Studies: A Critical Inquiry Online Forum, In the Moment, 31 March 2019.
Do read and comment on each other’s blog posts from last week. Those of you who have yet to post, please do so by Tuesday 10:00 am at the lastest
There will be no blog post due this week, unless you want to take the time to do an extra post. Grad Students a post about these readings might be a good option.
